600m Drilling Rig Machine for African Mineral Exploration
Project Background
An overseas mineral exploration project in Africa required a reliable drilling solution for geological investigation and mineral resource evaluation. The exploration team needed to drill into underground rock formations and recover representative core samples for geological analysis.
The target drilling depth was approximately 600 meters, with an optimal hole diameter range of φ60–110mm. Since the project involved field exploration, the drilling equipment also needed to handle different drilling locations and uneven terrain while maintaining stable operating performance.
In addition to drilling depth, mobility, drilling angle, core recovery, equipment reliability, and maintenance requirements, the customer also considered the overall suitability of the drilling rig machine for the project.
Based on the project requirements, RUIXIN recommended a 600m Hydraulic Core Drilling Rig as the main equipment and supplied matching drilling accessories and spare parts for the exploration project. The selected configuration was designed to provide a practical balance between drilling capacity, mobility, power, and field operation.
Customer Requirements
The customer required the drilling rig machine to meet several key project conditions:
- Approximately 600m drilling depth for mineral exploration
- φ60–110mm hole diameter for core drilling operations
- Stable performance in different rock formations
- Suitable drilling angles for changing exploration locations
- Good mobility on uneven field terrain
- Reliable core retrieval for geological analysis
- Matching drilling tools, accessories, and spare parts
The main objective was to select a machine that could provide the required drilling depth without unnecessarily increasing equipment size and operating costs.
Equipment Selection
Based on the drilling depth, hole diameter, exploration application, and field conditions, RUIXIN selected a 600m Hydraulic Core Drilling Rig.
The maximum drilling depth of the machine reaches 600m with NTW, which closely matches the customer’s target depth. This made the machine suitable for the project without selecting a significantly larger deep-drilling model.
The drilling rig machine supports an optimal hole diameter range of φ60–110mm, covering the customer’s core drilling requirements. Its drilling angle can be adjusted from 45° to 90°, providing greater flexibility when drilling at different exploration locations.
For field mobility, the machine uses a steel crawler chassis and has a maximum climbing angle of approximately 30°. This configuration helps the rig move between drilling points where ground conditions may not be completely flat.

Why This Drilling Rig Machine Was Selected
The selection was based on the actual requirements of the exploration project rather than simply choosing the machine with the greatest drilling depth.
First, the 600m NTW drilling capacity closely matches the target depth, providing sufficient capacity for the planned exploration work without selecting a substantially oversized machine.
Second, the 1,600 N·m maximum torque provides the rotary force required for core drilling operations in different formations. The hydraulic system allows operators to adjust drilling parameters according to changing ground conditions.
Third, the 800m wire rope capacity and hydraulic winch support deep-hole core retrieval. This is particularly important for mineral exploration projects where representative core samples are required for geological analysis.
The BW9-3 mud pump provides drilling-fluid circulation to help remove cuttings and maintain stable drilling conditions. Combined with the crawler-mounted chassis, the configuration is suitable for field exploration where mobility and operating flexibility are important.
The equipment was also supplied with matching drilling tools, accessories, and spare parts. This allowed the customer to receive the main drilling equipment and commonly required supporting components as a more complete drilling solution.
Delivery Process
The project followed a structured factory-to-site delivery process:
1. Equipment Preparation
RUIXIN prepared the 600m drilling rig machine according to the confirmed drilling requirements, including the main machine and matching drilling accessories.
2. Factory Inspection
Before shipment, the major systems were inspected and tested. The inspection covered the engine, hydraulic system, power head, winch, mud pump, crawler system, and overall operating performance.
3. Loading and Shipment
After factory inspection and final preparation, the drilling rig and supporting accessories were loaded and shipped to the overseas project site.
4. Field Application
After arrival, the equipment was prepared for geological exploration and core drilling operations. The rig is intended to drill toward the target depth and recover representative rock cores for subsequent geological analysis.
Project Results
The selected drilling rig machine provides the project with a configuration matched to its main technical requirements:
- 600m NTW drilling capacity for the planned exploration depth
- φ60–110mm drilling range for core drilling applications
- 45°–90° drilling angle for flexible field operation
- Steel crawler chassis for movement between drilling locations
- 91kW diesel power and 1,600 N·m maximum torque
- Hydraulic winch and mud pump for deep-hole drilling support
- Matching drilling accessories and spare parts supplied with the main equipment
Rather than relying on a larger machine with excessive capacity, the project used a drilling rig machine configured around the required depth, hole diameter, mobility, and core drilling conditions.
